i have used al sorts of things, polyester resins, epoxies, polyurethanes, slurry mixes, i have even used powder based handy man rapid repair products with pigments mixed in. all depends on if you want to hide the holes. polyester resins will work but tend to have a color to them that can be bit off, blue before setting can turn brown after setting. it will be more transparent in smaller volumes. to color match bubbles i try to catch the fines that are made while grinding and mix them through resin or glue or cement based slurry but more often than not i will use a contrasting color to fill holes and highlight them. with that said i very rarely polish anything to the level that you are working to.
